A hospital is so much more than a building—it’s the heart of a community. It beats with the skill and dedication of the physicians, nurses, staff members and volunteers. It’s where new life begins, the sick and injured receive care and the elderly are comforted. It’s the place we go for education, expertise and a healing touch at our most vulnerable moments.
The health of a community can be gauged by its hospital. Henry Medical Center is a shining example—and the area residents know just how important HMC is to them.
“We’ve always enjoyed great support from our community,” says Jeff Cooper, Executive Director of the Henry Medical Center Foundation. “When HMC was in critical need of expanding, the community rallied and made sure we got the necessary approvals for our North Tower expansion.”
Today, the expansion is nearly completed, bringing 91 patient rooms along with Cardiac and Women’s Centers to the new five-story building. Of course, though the construction is almost finished, HMC continues to look to the community for support of its future growth.
Since 1982, the hospital has relied on the HMC Foundation’s fundraising efforts for vitally needed money. The non-profit philanthropic foundation has come through magnificently, garnering more than $5 million to keep HMC operating with the best possible facilities, service and technology.
“Every dollar we can bring to the hospital is important,” Jeff explains, “so we provide several donation options for the community. These programs give individuals, families, businesses and organizations the opportunity to choose a comfortable contribution level, starting at just $50, each with benefits to the hospital and the contributors.”
Current fundraising programs include the North Tower Naming Opportunities, Corporate Honor Roll, Friends of the Foundation and the Annual Fund. Probably the most exciting program is the recently begun North Tower Naming Opportunities.
For a gift of $25,000, contributors are invited to name a patient room. An entire patient unit can be named for $100,000; to name a critical care or specialized care unit, the donation is $250,000; and a Center of excellence naming contribution is $500,000.
Jeff says that the foundation already has commitments for the Women’s Center, one patient unit and ten patient rooms as well as two $50,000 commitments for naming other areas. “Our Naming program is a great way for the community to show support of HMC’s growth—and, in the case of one of our donors, honor a family member who’s passed away,” he adds.
Donations to the HMC Foundation are tax-deductible and can be made anonymously; all major gifts of $25,000 or more have five years to complete payment.
