Joint pain is a common problem as we age. In 2005, 42.7 million adults were documented to have doctor-diagnosed arthritis; another 23.2 million people live with chronic joint symptoms, but have not been diagnosed by a doctor, according to the Arthritis Foundation.
Osteoarthritis is the most prevalent form of arthritis. Most adults have some symptoms of the degenerative disease by the age of 70. It occurs when the cartilage cushioning the ends of bones in the joint deteriorates, causing pain and loss of movement as bone begins to rub against bone.
